Unfortunately due to the tough drought we have endured over the last year especially we have had to find new homes for our llamas. We hope to have llamas again in the future, but for now you may still catch a glimpse of 1 llama and 3 alpacas on the property just above the cottages. We ask that you do not feed these animals as they do not belong to us, but enjoy watching them graze and laze about in the sun!
These magnificent animals are curious, interesting and calming characters and are bred for their temperament and fleece. They originate from the Americas, and are amongst the earliest of all domesticated animals. A member of the camelid family, llamas/alpacas are herd animals, but react very positively with people. Extremely versatile, they come in a wide variety of colours, sizes and personalities!
A friendly companion, camelids are commonly used as pack animals in mountainous areas and for those who just enjoy hiking or backpacking. Capable of carrying 1/3 of their body weight, llamas are a quiet and willing companion when hiking. With their two toed foot, camelids are agile and sure-footed. As a bonus feature, the soft pad on the bottom of their foot results in a low impact on the environment.
