What's Been Happening? ...  July 2008

Great South East on Channel 7 (27/7/08)

We had a lovely chat and picnic with Laurel and the llamas at the cottages.  See some photos here.

Local Inhabitants

1)      Krimson is the Head Llama of our herd and he keeps an eye on all happenings.  Krimson looked after some of our lady llamas for the first time in May 2008, so we’ll expect the pitter patter of tiny hooves sometime next Easter. We heard from the ladies that he was the perfect gentleman.

2)      All of our boys enjoy the Guest Feeding Experience

3)      Mrs Black

4)      Queenie (Head Chook)

5)      The Black Sisters

Our Chookie-Babes have bought us much pleasure in the short time they’ve lived here and they have just matured enough to lay eggs, so guests can now enjoy our natural, free range eggs for breakfast.

6)      The Keets (baby guinea fowl) still need to be protected from our other songful residents, who tend to see them as snack food!

7)      Monty Python was a little put out when we sprung him.

8)      This Frilly Necked Lizard lives along the driveway.

The Property – A Work In Progress

When Ross and Diane took over this property many of the gullies were inaccessible due to mountains of lantana and a plethora of other fast growing weed plants.  A clearing program had to be undertaken in such a way that the environment was preserved.  The bulk of the clearing was achieved by Ross and his trusty machine and the ongoing work is, in the main, done by our Stalwart in the Field, Walter, seen below on one of our burning off moments.

10)  Keeping an eye on this large fire

11)  Once cleared, it was then time to plant out 200 or more tube stock native trees to assist Mother Nature in the revegetation program. The little trees have enjoyed growing up inside their protective tents and the local wallabies and kangaroos are not too greedy with those succulent new leaves. As other areas are cleared and pathways established, there will be many more of these little tent havens for future forest giants.

OK, finally we’ve started the last two cottages, so here’s a sneak preview, with more to come…

13)  Looking over at ‘Casa Arbol’ and the gorgeous private bush & valley views.
